Over the past few months, I have been proud to work alongside residents and business owners of South Toledo, as well as Mayoral Candidate Roberto Torres and Former Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, to bring attention to the mining operation threatening our neighborhoods.
Thanks to the persistence of the community and a unified effort, Toledo City Council voted to stop the rezoning and shut it down. I want to thank Council for doing the right thing and listening to the people. Now it is time to restore the land and work toward a future that reflects what South Toledo truly needs.
I also commend Council for approving the contracts for our firefighters and police command officers. These men and women have served our city with dedication and deserved to be treated with fairness and respect. It is good to see that recognized.
Last week was a big week for Toledo. We stood up for our neighborhoods and showed our public safety workers that they matter. That is the kind of progress we need more of.
