PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP – Before Patton Road, between Yawberg and S.R. 295, gets repaved later this summer, one underlying issue will need to be resolved: standing water at the intersection of Patton and Yawberg.
During the June 17 Providence Township trustees’ meeting, farmer Keith Hannewald asked for help in his months-long effort to solve the issue of standing water in the fields near the intersection. He’s spoken with the county stormwater engineer, who found old maps showing placement of some field tiles and recommended that Hannewald work with trustees to find a solution. The maps show a five-inch clay tile, but trustees agree that not all tiles have been included on maps over the decades, and agreed with Hannewald’s assertion that a 5-inch clay tile can’t drain 30 acres.
“It behooves us to move that water away from the road. It’s low on both sides,” said Trustee Steve Kendall.
After Hannewald’s discussion with Trustees Kendall, Lee Bialecki and Jeremiah Floyd, along with Road Supervisor Kevin Keifer, the trustees agreed that allowing water to seep in under the road bed would erode the new pavement, and asked Keifer to get quotes for the catch basin work to be paid for by the township.
During the meeting, the trustees also:
-Heard Zoning Inspector Jim Fischer say that he issued permits for both a new home and accessory building for 12617 Archbold-Whitehouse Rd.
-Learned from Fischer that a representative of the Division of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) asked for verification that 13710 S. River Rd. is zoned appropriately for the owner to sell and repair firearms. Fischer advised that the property is in the unzoned area of the township.
-Discussed how to deal with clearing out the ditch at Yawberg and Box roads, which is the deepest in the township. It also has poison hemlock growing on a tree.
-Heard that someone mowed over two full garbage bags dumped on Yawberg between Neowash and Perry roads.
-Asked Keifer to get quotes on repaving the cemetery driveway.
