TOLEDO – Mitch Albom, an internationally renowned bestselling author, journalist, broadcaster, humanitarian, and more was the guest speaker at the Toledo Lucas County Library’s Author! event last week.
Albom, who has written syndicated column for the Detroit Free Press since 1985, talked about his latest book, Twice, to a sold-out crowd in the McMaster Family Center for Lifelong Learning in the Main Library on Oct. 13.
Twice is a story about Alfie Logan, who possesses the magical ability to get a second chance at everything. He can undo any moment and live it again. The one catch: he must accept the consequences of his second try—for better or worse.
Albom not only discussed his latest book; he also talked about his life as a humanitarian.
In 2006, he founded the nonprofit SAY Detroit, which provides pathways to success for Detroiters in need through major health, housing and education initiatives. He also founded a dessert shop, Detroit Water Ice Factory, and a gourmet popcorn line, Brown Bag Popcorn, to help fund it.
Albom operates Have Faith Haiti, a home and school for impoverished children and orphans in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Albom’s books have collectively sold 42 million copies worldwide; have been published in 51 territories and in 48 languages around the world; and have been made into Emmy Award-winning and critically-acclaimed television movies.
