Ready for the elections? Sure, early voting for the Nov. 3 Election Day starts on Oct. 6, but deadlines to file for the May 2027 election are not far off. And there are several positions on the ballot, especially in Waterville and Whitehouse, where council members have been appointed since the last municipal election. The Lucas County Board of Elections shared these upcoming deadlines.
In Waterville, the deadline to file for five council seats and mayor is Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. Mayor Tim Pedro is term limited and cannot run for a third term. Rod Frey, Scott Jahns and Nick Sargent were appointed after the last election and need to rerun to fill the two-year, unexpired terms. Seats held by Todd Borowski and Wayne Wagner are also expiring at the end of 2027, along with the mayor’s position. These are four-year terms.
In Whitehouse, the filing deadline to run for council and mayor is Friday, March 5 at 4 p.m. to qualify for the May 4 primary. The four-year seats held by Dave Riggenbach and Carrie Tuohy – who were elected in November 2023 – will be on the ballot. So will unexpired, 2-year terms for two members were were appointed within the past month: Nikki Hartbarger and Jake Heilmann.
Wednesday, Aug. 4 is the deadline for candidates to file to run for local township offices and school boards, as these will not be part of the May primary. Anthony Wayne Board of Education seats currently held by Jeff Baden, Lindsay Hoipkemeir, Mike Stamm and Amy Barrett – who was appointed in January to fill a vacated position – will be on the ballot.
In Providence Township, positions currently held by Trustee Jeremiah Floyd and Fiscal Officer Julie Ludwig will be on the ballot. In Monclova Township, one four-year seat held by Chuck Hoecherl will be open. And in Waterville Township, seats held by Trustee Julie Theroux and Fiscal Officer Jeanne Taylor will be on the ballot.
