Wild turkeys are big beautiful birds, and they are also our largest upland bird. It wasn’t so long ago that there were no turkeys in Northwest Ohio. They disappeared from Ohio over 100 years ago, but have made a comeback thanks to an aggressive Ohio Division of Wildlife effort to reintroduce them. They’ve thrived locally since they were reintroduced in Oak Openings Preserve Metropark in 2000.
Look for them in Metroparks Toledo, especially the Oak Openings Region.
