TOLEDO- The Palestinian film To Kill a War Machine will be shown in the McMaster Center located at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 6-8 p.m.
Amjad Doumani, founder of Media Decompression Collective (MDC), said he decided to show this film because, even though people have spoken extensively about Palestine, the U.S. government is not doing the will of the people.
“First, the genocide is everywhere on social media. It’s not talked about too much in the mainstream media, and if it is talked about, it’s talked about from a Zionist perspective, not really telling the real, hard truth about what’s going on,” Doumani said.
The film follows activists from Palestine Action, a British direct action group, as they raid Elbit Systems, a factory located in London, where bombs and weapons are made to be sent to Israel.
Doumani said he contacted the directors of the film, and they gave him permission to show it to the public.
“This film is banned in the U.K., and I keep up with the news and I heard about this, so I contacted the directors. And I said, ‘Well, it’s banned in England, but it’s not banned in the U.S. We’d like to show it.’ And they said, ‘You have our blessing and permission to show it in the U.S.,” he said.
There will be a Q&A session at the end of the screening.
Cindy Matthews will make opening remarks and Zach Dempster will be updating the status of Palestine Action; both individuals are part of MDC.
“We are a non-hierarchical organization,” said Doumani. “We don’t believe in titles or positions; everyone is equal.”
He said he hopes people will be more informed when watching this film.
“What we [MDC] hope people will take take away from it is that people do have the power to affect change, and we want to empower the people to know that they can take things into their own hands, even knowing they may be against the law, that these laws that they’re breaking are worth breaking. Because the bigger law that’s been broken is the genocide happening,” Doumani said.
The screening of To Kill a War Machine is free and open to the public.
