If they haven’t already, Ohio’s mated adult bald eagles will soon be sitting on eggs – as many as three of them. They’ll be laying them in their massive nests – also known as aeries – typically built high in the crotch of a sturdy tree near a body of water they’ll use as a source for food. Just building the nest is no small feat. A new nest could be two to three feet deep and four or more feet in diameter, topped with a bed of soft materials including grasses and feathers. Typically, an eagle pair will use the same nest year after year, adding material with each nesting.
