John Harley Breno, 70, of Maumee, died Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born February 29, 1956, in Toledo, Ohio, to Paul and Mollie (Leat) Breno. He was a proud graduate of DeVilbiss High School, attended the University of Toledo, and completed carpentry apprenticeship.

John worked as a residential carpenter, beginning his career with Meyer & Mohn. In 1987, he became a partner in Riverview Construction. He was an accomplished and respected finish carpenter, but also did rough carpentry. He built and remodeled houses in Sylvania, Ottawa Hills, Perrysburg, Rossford, and surrounding areas of Northwest Ohio. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. His favorite Detroit Tiger was Al Kaline. He loved gardening, especially his daylilies, roses, and irises. He enjoyed building WWII model airplanes, working crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and researching his family genealogy. He had a wonderful dry sense of humor, loved to tease you but hated to be teased, and patience was not his virtue.

John married Patricia Meyer on March 1, 1980. They were blessed with 46 years of marriage. "He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest..." --W.H.Auden

Survivors include his wife, Pat, his daughter Sarah Berry (Maumee), his son John C. (Toledo); brother Robert (Tariffville, CT), sister Monica Baltes (Orland Park, IL), twin sister Barbara Martin (Perrysburg); grandchildren Brooklyn and Austin Berry; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephews, Ryan and Tony; and his niece Donna.

John's family would like to thank the nurses on the 5th floor at Toledo Hospital, especially Tyler; the nurses in the ER and on the 8th floor at Flower Hospital; and all the wonderful nurses, aides and caregivers at Ebeid for their exceptional care and support. You blessed us with your caring during this devastating time.

Per John's request, there will be no visitation and interment will be private.

Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library.
