Charles William “Chip” Carlson III, 70, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully at his home in Toledo on June 19, 2025. Chip was born March 28, 1955, and raised in Tiffin, OH, to Charles W. “Bill” and Janet Eloise “Sandy” Carlson.

He is survived by his sister Sheila (Stephen Shulok) Bour (Kent, OH) and his brothers Michael (Barbara) Carlson (Springfield, OH) and John (Tonya) Carlson (Port Clinton, OH).

He will be deeply missed by his nieces, Alise (Jamie) Brown (Florida), Kelly (Johnathan) Komara (Kent, OH), Melissa Bour (San Fransico, CA), and Briana Carlson, as well as his nephews, Cameron and Nicholas Carlson; and five great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Chip was a longtime resident of Catawba Island before moving to Toledo. (Oregon, Ohio)

He was a 1973 graduate of Columbian High School.

Chip began his career as a glassblower at Tiffin Glass, a company owned by his father, C.W. Carlson Jr. Seeking new challenges, he moved to Taunton, MA, from 1977 to 1979 to help his father build an all-electric glass facility for Princess House. He later returned to Ohio to care for our mom, who had cancer at the time. Chip then started working for Church and Dwight, also known as Arm and Hammer, in Old Fort, OH. Eventually, Chip moved to Catawba Island on Lake Erie and started his own company, Carlson Construction, which he operated until his early retirement in 2011 due to health issues.

Chip was a fun-loving and generous man who lived life to the fullest and had a deep appreciation for the simple things. He was happiest outdoors, whether he was skeet shooting, hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, or gardening. His constant companions were his beloved Labradors, whom he loved unconditionally.

Graveside services will be 2 pm Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. TRAUNERO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio (419)447-3113 have been entrusted with the arrangements.
