Wildlife populations have been high recently as young of all species set out
on their own, venturing away from nests, hollows and dens. This pair of young raccoons
has wandered from the safety of their den, probably in a nearby tree or hollow log where
they were born two to three months ago. Their mother, who performs all the duties of
raising young, is likely nearby. It’s not unusual for her to remain close to her young
through their first year.
