Obituary For Zella R. Fought
Zella Rose Fought, 94, of Perrysburg, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born in Rocky Ridge, OH to Arthur and Wilma (Parman) Schiller on October 23, 1929. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Fought, at the young age of 18 after graduating from Oak Harbor High School; they had to travel to KY since his parents wouldn’t give their written approval! Richard had been drafted by the Cleveland Indians and they travelled a few years while Richard played minor league baseball. Once they started their family, Richard left his baseball career so they could return to Ohio and have a more stable life.
Zella worked as a bookkeeper for Richard’s company, Richard W. Fought Mason Contractor, and later started her own businesses; Unique Craftique and selling Buck wood stoves. Through their years together, she also ran an apple orchard and they started a golf driving range. For a few decades, Zella was a member of Epsilon Phi of Sigma Alpha and enjoyed doing charitable works with her fellow members who included friends and eventually her daughter. Never one to sit idle, Zella volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital for several years after she retired from all of her business endeavors. In her later years, she would often say how much she enjoyed being a mother. Zella was a hardworking, no-nonsense kind of woman who loved her family and would do anything to help others.
She is survived by her children, Randall (Patti) Fought, Ryan Fought; grandchildren, Ross (Michelle) Fought, Ariane (Brad Miller) Fought; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and too many friends to count. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Fought; children, Rick Fought and Renee Fought; brothers, Loren and Dean Schiller; great-granddaughter, Shiane Fought; and her parents.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, September 30, 2024, beginning at 3 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH 43537, where the funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorial donations in Zella’s name may be made to the Sunshine Children’s Home.
