Obituary For Wesley A. Buckley

Wesley A. Buckley, 46, of Genoa, formerly of Rossford, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at his residence after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Wes was born on May 30, 1977, in Toledo, Ohio, to Timothy and Cheryl (Eitemiller) Buckley. He graduated from Rossford High School in 1996.

Wes was a truck driver for JTI Transport. He enjoyed bowling, achieving a couple perfect 300 games, cooking, and slot car racing. His number one passion and love in his life was drag racing, winning 92 races and seven championships. Notably, in 2021, Wes won the Division 3 Bracket Finals and traveled to Las Vegas for the national championship race. Wes was also an avid traveler, having visited 48 of the 50 United States, often joking that he couldn’t find any reason to go to North Dakota.

Wes was more than just a racer; he was a beloved member of the racing community, where everyone knew him by name. At the racetrack, Wes was always there with a helping hand, whether it was lending tools, offering advice, or simply providing a listening ear. He was known for his kindness and generosity, and his friends at the racetrack knew they could always count on him.

Wes shared a friendly competition with his racing friends, often joking about who was the better racer. Despite the rivalry on the track, the camaraderie and mutual respect among them were unwavering.

Wes especially enjoyed laughing and often found the most enjoyment in simple jokes. He had a quick wit and was known to crack jokes about family members' shortcomings, always lightening the mood and making everyone laugh.

Wes also had a talent for grilling, often making some of the best ribs. Every year at the Halloween Classic, he treated his friends to a large pot of his "hobo stew," a tradition they all eagerly anticipated.

He is survived by his parents, Tim and Cheryl; siblings, Chad (wife Sarah Isaacs) Buckley, Lucas (fiancée Amber Worthington) Buckley, and Kelsey Buckley; nephew, Logan Buckley and beloved pets Jimmy and Sammy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James (Mary Ellen) Buckley, Frank Eitemiller, Verna (Merle) Phillips; uncles, G. Michael and Jeffrey Eitemiller; Thomas J. Buckley and aunt, Sally Lindhorst.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 2-8 p.m., and Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-792-3786). Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
