Obituary For Stanley Martin Micka
Stanley Martin Micka, 95, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at Parkcliffe Memory Care Community in Toledo, with family by his side.
He was born in Maumee on April 5, 1929, to Martin and Agnes Micka, the youngest of three brothers. He graduated from Maumee High School in 1947 and met Mary Berning at Pearson Park’s outdoor skating rink a few years later. Dates at the Valentine Theatre and Toledo Sports Arena led to their marriage at Holy Rosary Cathedral in 1954.
They raised four children in Maumee, taking the family on summer trips to Michigan’s Hemlock Lake well into the teenage years of their oldest grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, card games, telling jokes and attending every grandchild’s sports games, musical performances and Grandparents’ Day events. His family was always in awe of his razor-sharp memory and ability to recall any name or event when called on.
Stan built a career in grocery management and distribution, rising from a teenage stock boy at A&P to store manager before working in the Toledo office as a buyer. He eventually shifted to food brokerage before retiring — twice, as the first time didn’t stick.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and brothers John (Marianne) and Frank (Anna) Micka. He is survived by his children: Debi (Mike) DeBrosse, Denny Micka, Diann (Bill) Harrison and Donna (John) Cheung; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
A funeral Mass will take place Monday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m. with a 9:30 a.m. visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, 104 W. Broadway St., in Maumee. The family would like to thank the Parkcliffe community, especially past and present staff at House 7 South, for caring for Stan and Mary for so many years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, at 800-272-3900; or to the Capital Improvement Fund at St. Joseph Maumee, at 419-893-4848.
