A gentle giant with a sharp memory and a playful spirit, he was a family historian and a natural storyteller. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of both useful and quirky facts, always ready to share with friends and family alike, sparking lively conversations and sometimes debates.
One of Rogers’ greatest joys was bringing people together, whether through his famous barbecues—especially his ribs—or during family celebrations. He cherished these moments of fellowship, finding immense happiness in entertaining those he loved. His fondness for Good & Plenty candy, juicy burgers with fries, seafood, and sweet treats was legendary, and he took special pleasure in indulging his family with his cooking.
Rogers’ laughter, kindness, and ever-present smile will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara McGee; his daughters, Tamra (Derrick) Owens of Goodyear, AZ, and Rogina Carter of Atlanta, GA; his son, Brian McGee of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, Tyrese McGee, Minnie McGee, Shirley Barbour, Rosemary McGee, and Patricia (Billy) Neal; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his children Kimberly Pfitzer and Rogers E. McGee, and his siblings Martha Pettaway, Louise Mathis, Gloriastein McGee, Charlene Williams, and Loleta Cranon.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
