Obituary For Richard Linn Steinline
On March 10th, 2024, we said goodbye to a lifelong “True Perrysburger”, Richard Linn Steinline, who passed away peacefully at Hospice Northwest Ohio, at the age of 78. Rick was born February 12, 1946, in the old Perrysburg Hospital located at the corner of Locust and East 2nd St. to Raymond and Dorothy (Feese) Steinline. He lost his father when he was six and was raised solely by his mother who never remarried.
In high school, Rick was a standout varsity athlete in basketball and football. During his junior year he was recruited to play football by Woody Hayes (Ohio State University), Bo Schembechler (Miami University), and Ara Parseghian (Northwestern University). Unfortunately, he blew out his knee and his dreams of playing collegiate football never came to fruition. Rick never married and had no children; however, he did raise three Kuvasz pups, all whom he aptly named “Bear”.
Rick worked 35 years at Byrne Paint in Toledo retiring in 2006 where he enjoyed his time and had a great respect for his boss, Charlie and the rest of the Byrne family. He never ventured far from Perrysburg. He enjoyed his sports and afternoon Coors Lights at many of the local watering holes where he never met a stranger and made many great friends. Rick enjoyed old Rock n Roll and Jazz music, walking his dog at midnight, storytelling and reminiscing. He was known for his dry sense of humor, incredible memory, and his kind and friendly demeanor. He was also generous to a fault. Rick’s booming voice filled family gatherings with happiness, and he always made his exit with an “Irish Goodbye”.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Dorothy. He is survived by sisters, Betty Calevro, of Perrysburg, and Dottie (Steve) Honsberger, Sun City, AZ, and a brother, Ray “RJ” (Kay), of Truth or Consequences, NM, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is planned for September 14th with information to follow in the Perrysburg Messenger Journal. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in his name to the Toledo Humane Society. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
