Obituary For Richard D. Kyser
Richard (Dick) LeRoy Kyser, 92, of Holland, Ohio, passed away on September 18, 2024. Born on September 16, 1932, to Orlanda Monrow Kyser and Mahala Belle Schutte, Dick was a dedicated family man and a respected professional in the glass industry.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 69 years, Mae Kyser; children, Bob Kyser (Peggy Shirley) of Chicopee, Massachusetts, Greg Kyser (Jennie) of Charlotte, North Carolina, John Kyser (Margie) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Carol Wagner (Jason) of Sylvania, Ohio. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orlanda and Belle Kyser, sisters, Dorothy Walser and Darless Walters, and daughter-in-law Jean (Wellman) Kyser.
Dick’s early years were spent in Beaver County, Pennsylvania where he attended Bologne Valley School, a one-room school house in North Sewickley, followed by New Brighton High School, graduating in 1950. He furthered his education at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, earning a degree that paved the way for a successful engineering career.
During the Korean Conflict, Dick served honorably in the Army's 304th Signal Brigade, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal.
Professionally, Richard began his career at the American Bridge Division of the United States Steel Corporation during the construction of the Mackinac Bridge. Later, he transitioned to the glass industry, working as an industrial engineer at Jeannette Glass, Thatcher Glass, Brockway Glass, and finally retiring from Owens-Illinois in 1995.
Richard and his wife, Mae, were long-time members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellwood City. His personal life was filled with joy from his hobbies, which included supporting the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, playing and coaching softball in his younger years, reading, playing cards, and his love for animals.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 10 am to 12 noon with a service immediately following at Walker Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to ASPCA or a local animal shelter in Dick’s memory.
Dick will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends as a kind and gentle man who was always supportive and giving. May he rest in peace.
