Obituary For Phillip T. Fonner

Phillip T. Fonner passed away peacefully with his family at his side, Friday, May 3, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, at the age of 84. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on November 6, 1939, the son of Phillip L. and Alta (Mominee) Fonner. Phillip graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1957 and in 1958 he entered the U.S. Army for a six-month training period. In 1961 he was called to active duty and served in the United States and Vietnam, until his discharge in 1963.

Phillip worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years in different capacities, out of Toledo’s main post office. He was always an avid Toledo hockey fan following all of the past Toledo teams from the Blades up to the Walleye. He was a fan of the Mud Hens too, going to a game as often as he could and during football season he cheered on THE Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed those sports, but his true love was his grandchildren and all of his family.

He is survived by his children, Phillip W. Fonner, Shelley Matney, Karen Fonner, Denise Fonner, and Deanne Irvine, 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, along with his sister, Rosalie Agan. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lori Randolph and his brother-in-law, Walter Agan.

Military graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. Ignatius Cemetery, Oregon, Ohio. The Walker Funeral Home – Oregon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be offered to the family by visiting www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
