Obituaries

Nicholas Ort, age 72, of the Point Place/Shoreland Community, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Nick was born on September 7, 1952, in Defiance, Ohio to the late James and Geraldine (McDonald) Ort and graduated from Toledo Woodward High School in 1970.

Conscientious and gifted with a strong work ethic, he worked for the former Fine Wine Distributing, J.B. Hunt Trucking, and most recently Frito-Lay. Nick had a classic salesman persona in that he was genuinely interested in other people and was extremely friendly with a quick wit. He loved to have a good time, and people warmed up to him immediately, establishing many lasting friendships for him.

In his free time, Nick loved to be outdoors boating, fishing, riding his Harley, or simply going for an afternoon walk and then enjoying a “nappy poo.” He appreciated the beauty of nature and the peace he found within it. Despite years of heartache, he was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Tigers. He loved his mom’s home cooked meals, satisfying his sweet tooth, especially with red licorice or homemade cookies. Nick also enjoyed a wide range of music; everything from classic rock to his recent confession of being a “Swifty!” Most importantly, Nick cherished spending time with his family, friends and fur babies!

Left to cherish his memory is his former wife and dear friend, Terry Keogh; children, Jody Rodkey, Nick (Julie) Ort, Kristyn (Adam) Clarke, and Ryan Ort; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and his siblings, Jim Ort, Sandra (Stan Stahl) Grunberg, and Tim (Lisa) Ort.

Services will be held privately for Nick’s family.
