Obituary For Nancy A. Meabon
Nancy Anne Gosdin Meabon, known by many as a generous, loving, good-humored, faith-filled, bread-baking, dedicated coffee lover, passed away on November 27, 2024. She always had time for others and went lovingly by many names: “Nan” or “my dear darlin’ bride” by Dave Meabon, her best friend and husband of 57 years, “Mom” by her two adoring children, Mike Meabon and Susanne Meabon Bendoraitis, “Nancy” by their spouses, Melissa Meabon and Kristian Bendoraitis, and “Nana” by her affectionate grandchildren, Gavin, Nadia, and Zander Meabon and Jonah and Micah Bendoraitis.
Nancy was born on July 15, 1947, in Carrollton, Georgia to Garfield and Montine Gosdin. Growing up in Georgia, her childhood was filled with family, faith, and frequent visits to Irene and Charlie Yawn’s farm with her sister Susan. Nancy graduated from Columbus High School, Columbus, Georgia and then pursued a nursing degree from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia. While in college, Nancy had a blind date with a “yankee” U.S. Army, captain, David Meabon. Within six months, they were married on June 22, 1968. To all who knew them, they began a life that day that was characterized by love, partnership, humor, faith and a strong commitment to one another and family.
Nancy’s work as a registered nurse transitioned to motherhood with the births of Mike and Susanne. Then, as her children were becoming teens, Nancy found a new way to help others, completing her Master’s in Counseling from Wichita State University, Wichita, KS. When their family moved to Toledo, OH, Nancy shifted to serving as a volunteer counselor for those approaching marriage.
Nancy filled her life with coffee, conversations, traveling with Dave and her family, eating popcorn, baking, bread making, reading, watching college basketball, being outside, and being active. Nancy’s days were filled with caring for others in any way she could. Nancy walked closely with Jesus, living out her faith in every aspect of her life as she cared for neighbors, friends, family, mail carriers, and anyone who crossed her path. Even her newest Bible was full of underlining, key insights, and notes about people she was praying for. Nancy’s heart was always focused on God and those around her.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St, Perrysburg, OH. A memorial service will be on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Westgate Chapel, 2500 Wilford Dr, Toledo, OH, with a reception following.
