Obituary For Matthew Thomas Conway

Matthew Thomas Conway, age 52, of Toledo, passed away October 14, 2024. He was born July 20, 1972, in Toledo to Patrick Thomas and Mary Jo (Acker) Conway. He attended St. Charles School and later graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio. Matt went on to fulfill his dream of being a firefighter when he was appointed to the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department on October 13, 1997, with Badge number 142. He had a heart for service, loved the City of Toledo and dutifully served his community with assignments at stations 23, 25 and 14. He retired February 2, 2023.

Matt was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed collecting memorabilia, autographs and watching his favorite teams. He also enjoyed traveling, listening to 80’s music and was an animal lover, especially dogs.

He is lovingly survived by his father, Patrick Thomas Conway; son, Zachary Thomas Conway; sisters, Kate Acker and Carrie Acker Hutchison (Robert); his partner of more than 20 years, Tammy Conway; stepdaughters, Nikole (Jake) Nowicki and Kalene Crabtree; three cherished grandchildren; and special nephew, Joseph. Matt was loved by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces. nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jo Acker.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 12 pm until 5 pm, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue, Toledo. A procession past Toledo Fire and Rescue Station 25 will follow. The procession will end at the St. Clement Fellowship Hall, 3030 Tremainsville Road, Toledo, where Last Alarm Services to honor Matt will begin at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the Historic Church of St. Patrick, 130 Avondale, Toledo, followed by funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Committal services and burial will be held privately.
