Obituary For Martha Agnes Lake

Martha Agnes (Jaeger) Lake left us peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at her home in Toledo surrounded by her loving family, cradling in her arms her namesake and great-granddaughter, holding hands across three generations.

Born November 19, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Magdalen (Navarre) and Julius Francis Jaeger.

Martha is survived by her children, Gerard Lake (Paula), Shirley (Lake) Mominee, and Thomas B. Lake; daughter-in-law, Marianne Palmer; grandchildren, Kelly Colvin (Andrew), Stephanie Tinney (Royce), Roberta Brenner (Joshua), Anthony (Mick) Mominee II (Nichole), Katherine (Katie) Mominee, Robert Mominee, and Wendy Reinhart (Michael); her grandson-in-law, Leonel Perez; and 6 other great-grandchildren, Lindsay Ishmael (Dakota), Gelder Perez, Crosby Mominee, Rory Mominee, her namesake Quetzali Martha Perez-Mominee, and 19 other great grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Virgil Jaeger; the Sunday dinner crew; and many other loved ones who cherished her dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of many years, John J. Lake; sister, Catherine (Kate) (Jaeger) Rowe; brother-in-law, John C. Rowe; son-in-law, Anthony (Tony) Mominee; partner in dessert, Eugene (Bandit) Ulrich; and 7 siblings.

Martha was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church and attended Ursuline Academy. She and John raised their three children in Toledo, before retiring to Cape Coral, Florida to be close to her best friend and dearest sister, Kate. In her later years, she returned to her hometown to be surrounded by her extended family.

Martha is proof that it’s never too late to live your best years. Despite living through incredible hardship, she came through as everyone’s loving grandmother. To Martha, family was everything; her children and grandchildren were her sustaining force.

Martha loved playing cards and making everyone laugh with her stories about the good ole days. In her younger years, she enjoyed ceramics, roller skating, and sewing clothes for her children. She was famous for getting a cup of soup and washing your spatula before you finished cooking. Martha loved a good rummage sale, a church dinner, and family get-togethers. She was as sweet as the treats she loved.

Martha was a deeply sentimental, sensitive, and beautiful soul. She will be remembered for her unconditional love and acceptance, her words of support, and her constant presence.

Grandma, we loved you for nearly 100 years, and we would’ve kept you for 100 more.
