Obituary For Mark Earl Anderson

Mark Earl Anderson, age 68, passed away on May 7, 2025, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. Mark was a proud graduate of Whitmer High School and began his career as an auto mechanic. He served his country in the US Navy and later worked in maintenance for Oregon Schools. Mark was the president of OAPSE for many years and a trustee for the State Employees Retirement System.

Mark married the love of his life, Nancy, and they shared 41 wonderful years of marriage, together for a total of 52 years. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and companionship.

Mark was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, OSU Football, and NASCAR. He could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, sharing his passion for sports with friends and family. His love for golf was evident in his desire to be on the golf course and the countless rounds he watched on television.

Mark was an accomplished pit master and took great pride in his culinary skills. He enjoyed traveling with his favorite destination, being family vacations at Holden Beach, NC. Mark’s love for music led him to explore new genres and artists and encourage his friends and family to listen as well. His off-color sense of humor was legendary, bringing laughter to those around him. Despite his gruff and sometimes grumpy exterior, Mark had a heart of gold.

Mark will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Smigielski) Anderson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Elizabeth “Betty” (Patay) Anderson, and sisters, Cindy Anderson and Jayne Sherette.

Mark’s family would like to thank the staff of the MICU at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care of a difficult patient.

A Celebration of Life will be held May 18, 2025, from 12-6 pm at PRCUA Toledo, 5255 N. Detroit Ave. Please bring your favorite memories of Mark to share.

Memorial donations may be given to Wounded Warriors.
