Obituary For Lisa Johnson Cowell

Lisa Johnson Cowell, 67, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away at home on Friday, October 20, 2023, after a sudden illness. She was the daughter of Robert E. and Norma Jean (Bunning) Johnson, born in Port Clinton, Ohio on August 24, 1956. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School, Class of 1974, and went on to attain multiple bachelor’s degrees while attending Tiffin University. She continued her education with an additional bachelor’s degree from Owens Technical College.

Lisa started working in the tax and payroll department for Royal Tool Co. in 1977 and in 1989 she started her own tax service, Lei J Inc. She worked out of her home until 1997, when she purchased her current location on Main Street in Genoa, where it remains today.

Lisa had a keen interest in the 4-H program as a young child, entering many of her handmade clothing and baked items in the Junior Fair program. Lisa later entered many of her flowers and vegetables in the Ottawa County Fair, winning many awards. Her love for nature was only second to the love she had for her grandchildren. She taught them to appreciate the beauty of nature and handmade items. Lisa was a fixture for many years, attending Genoa Village Council, Genoa Chamber of Commerce meetings, and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Oak Harbor.

Lisa is survived by her daughter, Ariana Johnson- Baxter and her husband, Adam, grandchildren, Evelyn, Dominic, Garrity, and Lillian Baxter, and brothers, Gregg (Diana) Johnson, Matt (Sherrill) Johnson, and Bart (Renee) Johnson. She was preceded in death on June 9, 2002, by her husband, Donald Cowell, whom she married, in Genoa, on February 21, 1981, her parents, Robert and Norma Johnson, and grandmother, Bernice Scoarse.

Visitation for Lisa will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, in the funeral home, followed by burial in the Roose Cemetery, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Lisa had suggested memorial contributions be directed to her grandchildren’s college education, through her family. Those wishing to offer condolences may do so at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
