Obituaries

Joan Marie Coghlin, age 89, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on August 14, 2023. She was born May 19, 1934, in Toledo to Joseph and Marie (Kohler) Schultz. Joan was a graduate of Rosary Cathedral Elementary School, Central Catholic High School, and Mercy School of Nursing. She worked her entire career as an R.N. with The Child Study Institute in Lucas County, where she made numerous lifelong friends.

She enjoyed traveling with her sister, Jane, and they shared wonderful adventures visiting her daughters, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Some of her favorite destinations included New York City, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Hilton Head and St. Louis. Clark Lake was a special place for Joan, sharing happy memories and lots of fun with family at their cabin for many decades. Joan enjoyed hiking and cross-country skiing and instilled a love of New England and the outdoors in all of us.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Susanne Coghlin and Lynne Miller; grandchildren (Leiah Miller, Grant Miller); sister, Jane (Tom) Ertle, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends will be received beginning at 10:30 am on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am, Joan will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. A celebration lunch will follow at the Sullivan Center.

A loving thank you to her sister Jane Ertle and her niece Jean Maloney as well as Janet Krueger, as they helped her with her journey from dementia to a peaceful passing.
