Obituaries

Jeffrey L. Armitage passed away September 22, 2024, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born November 20, 1951, to Lester and Joan Armitage in Toledo, OH and raised in Temperance, MI. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in Education. He then taught mathematics and history for a short time at the high school level. Jeff found what he felt was his dream job working for Giant Oaks Golf Course in Temperance as a greenskeeper where he was employed for 40 years. He took great pride in his work there until he retired in 2014. He then cared for both his father and mother through their illnesses until they passed in 2009 and 2016 respectively.

Jeff was a savant of sorts about sports. He would recite facts and figures for players and teams from decades past. He followed UT Football, and he loved his Detroit teams: Lions, Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings. He practically lived in ball caps for those teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Brenda J. Armitage (Marsha Manon). Also left to cherish his memory are his special friend, Nydia Nunez and her children, Louis Diaz, Ariana, Ymari, and Kayloni Nunez.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 10 am – 12 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. The Funeral Service will follow beginning at 12 pm with Pastor Julie Beitelchees officiating. Jeff will be laid to rest beside his parents at Toledo Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the Hickman Cancer Center and UTMC Cancer Treatment Center. Memorial Donations may be given to Connecting Kids to Meals, Humane Ohio, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
