Obituary For James Richard Bortz

James “Jim” Richard Bortz, 90, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home. He was born in Holgate, OH to George and Eugenia (Smith) Bortz on April 8, 1934. Jim graduated from Holgate High School, then attended The Ohio State University to study business. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1960. From 1954-1956 he served on the USS Los Angeles CA-135 as a Radioman 3rd Class. He worked at The Anderson’s in the Traffic Department, then worked in transportation at several different trucking companies throughout the years. After retirement, he joined the City of Perrysburg part-time mowing grass while delivering The Toledo Blade for many years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, and bowling. Jim also was a member of the Perrysburg VFW Post 28, The Toledo Sailing Club, and a past president of the Toledo Transportation Club. He was a fun-loving family man that enjoyed steak and seafood and had a guilty pleasure of enjoying a tootsie roll pop most evenings. His great sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and loving smile will be missed by everyone privileged to know him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Bortz; children, Stacie, Michael (Andrea Bortz, daughter-in-law); granddaughter, Kaylee Bortz; Mary Beth, Sheri, Susan from a previous marriage; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George Bortz and his mother, Eugenia Bortz.

Family and Friends will be received on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Witzler-Shank Perrysburg, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, OH. A Funeral Service will begin on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and the VA Home Based Primary Care for their wonderful assistance over the last year-and-a-half. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
