Obituary For Gary Richard Court
Gary Richard Court, 81, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1943, in Galion, Ohio, to Clarence and Marjorie Court, Gary’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, laughter, and generosity.
A proud graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in accounting, Gary was a numbers man with a deep heart for helping others. His career in accounting spanned many years, beginning as the treasurer and eventually the director of development at Toledo Hospital. He also shared his knowledge and passion for accounting with students at Owens Community College, and later found fulfillment in private practice. Known for his kindness, Gary was the CPA who always went the extra mile to assist anyone in need, whether they were family, friends, or strangers.
In 1965, Gary married Carol Peterson. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 32 years of love and memories before her passing in 1997. Despite the heartache of losing Carol, Gary’s heart opened again when he met Elva Reissig. They married on May 17, 1997, and over the next 27 years, they shared countless moments of joy, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a testament to the power of love, as they blended their families and made memories that will forever be cherished.
Gary’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was an active member of the Folk Group at St. Rose Catholic Church and later became a dedicated member of Zoar Lutheran Church. His faith not only grounded him but inspired those around him. Gary’s love for life extended beyond his faith; he was a die-hard Ohio State Buckeyes fan who never missed a game. Whether celebrating victories or lamenting defeats, he always made sure to share the score with his family, making each game an event to remember.
Gary’s sense of humor was legendary. He had a knack for bringing smiles to everyone around him, often telling his famous jokes. One of his favorites was: "Why did the accountant cross the road? To count the chickens on the other side!" His humor, warmth, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Elva; children; John (Olga) Court, E.K. Herroon, and Amanda Reissig; and grandchildren Veronica (Roberto R.) Mora, Vanessa (Darren L.) Court, Velina (Patrick S.), Cruz Salazar, Julio (Celeste) Salazar, Audrey (Shannon S.) Herroon, Grace Herroon, Timothy Reissig-Berry, Raiden Reissig-Berry, and Ophelia Reissig-Berry. He is also survived by his siblings Fred Court, Diana Rupert, Janet Moyer, Tom (Rita) Court, and Steve (Elsa) Court, along with many extended family members. Gary is now reunited with his parents, his first wife Carol, his brother Doug (Mary) Court, his brother-in-law Ken Rupert, and his sister-in-law Jody Court, in eternal peace.
Friends and family will be received Friday, January 10, 2025 from 3-6 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).
