Obituary For Fredrick Lee Durbin

Fredrick Lee Durbin, age 78, passed away peacefully, October 15, 2024, with loved ones by his side. Born on April 12, 1946, in Quantico, VA, Fred was the cherished son of Charles and Susan (Abel) Durbin. His life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to helping others.

Fred proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, embodying the spirit of service and commitment. After his military service, he pursued a career as an electrician and millwright supervisor at Jeep, where his expertise and leadership left a lasting impact.

In 2011, Fred married Rosemary Thorn, with whom he shared a deep and loving bond. He was previously married to Lynda Huffman, the mother of his six children. Fred’s family was the center of his world, and he was a devoted father.

Fred had a profound love for animals, especially his dog, Robbie, and his home was always filled with his joyful presence. He was known for his willingness to help anyone in need, often giving the shirt off his back to those less fortunate. His wonderful, kind nature and generous spirit touched the lives of many and he will be dearly missed.

An avid collector and enthusiast, Fred had a passion for antiques, old tractors, muscle cars, boats, and trains. He also enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, a hobby that brought him great joy. Fred loved to tinker in the barn, finding solace and satisfaction in his projects.

Fred was an avid Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His great smile and warm companionship made him a beloved friend to many. He had a unique ability to see the best in people, always appreciating them for who they truly were.

Fred is survived by his wife, Rosemary Thorn; sons, Kevin (Bridget), Carey (Brenda), Christopher (Carly), and Michael (Kristi Sprow) Durbin; daughters, Jayme (Frank) Funk, and Erin (Mohamed) Arafat; stepsons, Christopher (Lisa) Cornelius and Matthew (Carly) Thorn; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and canine companion, Robbie. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Durbin.

Family and friends may visit November 4, 2024, from 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 Main St. Sylvania. The Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 pm in the church. Interment with military honors will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the staff at Aspen Grove of Lambertville, MI and Julie of Heartland Hospice of Monroe for all their loving care for Fred.

Memorial Donations may be given to Toledo Area Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
