Obituary For Evelyn M. Zogaib
Evelyn M. (Nassar) Zogaib, 100, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. She was the last of her siblings to be with the Lord. The daughter of George and Mary Nassar, Evelyn grew up in the Locust Street neighborhood, close to her church, St. George Antiochian Cathedral, in Toledo. Evelyn worked at Erie Proving Grounds, an army depot, as a young woman. She later became the bookkeeper for Hot Dog Johnnies and Bouton’s Café, both of which were family businesses.
She and her sisters enjoyed listening and dancing to the big bands perform at the Trianon Ballroom in Toledo. She married Ernest “Ernie” Zogaib in 1951 and they raised three children. As a young family, activities centered around the church; especially enjoying Club Kahwa skits and family vacations at Church Conventions. Evelyn was proud to be a past president of the Ladies Benevolent Society of St. George Orthodox Cathedral, where she also was a long serving choir member.
Evelyn and Ernie had a lifetime group of family and friends they spent lots of time with. They went on many bus trips and enjoyed entertaining in each other’s homes. Evelyn and her friends would get together for Sewing Circle, Whist Club, and loved trips to Las Vegas! In her later years, she loved reading, playing cards, watching tennis and sports on T.V. She was quick as a whip up until her last moments on Earth, and she prided herself on keeping her mind strong.
She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was so proud of each and every one of them.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Tom (Debbie) Zogaib, daughter, Dianna Riffe; grandchildren, Joe (Marie) Zogaib, Jessica (Jai Tedeschi) Zogaib, Lila (Cameron) Lippert, Michael (Shannon) Baptist; great-grandchildren, Andrew Zogaib, Addison Zogaib, Cameron Lippert, Luke Zogaib, Maya Zogaib, Zoe Zogaib; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends and church family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernie Zogaib; daughter, Lori Baptist; granddaughter, Sarah Riffe; grandson, Jason Zogaib; siblings, Abraham, Teufie, James, Louise, Elsie, Dorothy; and her parents.
Friends will be received on Monday, September 9, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Road, Toledo, OH, where the Funeral Service will start at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George.
