Obituary For Edward Joseph Wells
Edward Joseph Wells, age 67, left this earth on September 19, 2023, in Toledo, Ohio. He was born January 26, 1956, in North Tonawanda, New York to C. Walter and Norma Wells.
Known as Ed, E.J. or Eddie depending on how and when he came into your life, Ed was a true renaissance man. His creativity was evident at an early age, pursuing a love of music. By his early teens he became a member of the Sylvania and Toledo music scenes, playing guitar and bass with various bands in the years to come, including the Human Darts, the Defectors, and Loved by Millions in the mid 1970’s. He shared that passion for rock and roll with what would turn out to be lifelong friends. Throughout the years, Ed spent time in the TV business, road construction, and established his own studio, Happyland Studio, to record music of his own and other talented local musicians. He recently discovered a new creative outlet, forming his own independent fragrance business, Happyland Studio Fragrances which serves customers across the country and beyond. His many other passions in life included a love of film, desert ghost towns, and his kitties. Ed’s sharp wit and one-of-a-kind sense of humor carried throughout his life and across the miles with friends and family. He had a bigger-than-life personality, with a heart bigger than that. Ed’s kindness and support of others is simply immeasurable throughout the years.
Ed was preceded in death by his father C. Walter Wells and stepbrother Doug Wells. He is survived by his loving wife Susan (Ross) Wells, daughter Chloe Michael, mother Norma Wells, sister Laura (Roger) Perkins, nephews and niece Evan J. Perkins, Katie Miner, Karl Perkins and Kyle Perkins, stepbrother Steve Wells, and “like a brother” Gregg Radaker. Ed is also survived by many dear friends who loved him like family, and he them. You know who you are.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E South Boundary Street in Perrysburg, Ohio on Thursday, October 12 from 3-8 p.m. and Friday, October 13 from 10-11 a.m. with a remembrance service to follow at 11 am.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers a donation to Paws & Whiskers Cat Shelter in Toledo, or to the charity of your choice.
