Obituary For Edgar Kidd
Edgar Kidd of Holland, Ohio, laid his earthly burdens down and went to meet his Lord and reunite with many loved ones on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Ed was born to Sarah (Parsons) and Alec Kidd on Big Branch in Honaker, Kentucky, on February 27, 1940. He had two brothers and seven sisters with whom he shared adventures and chores while growing up in rural Kentucky. Education was important to Ed, and he persevered to graduate in 1960. After graduation and a few adventures, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he met and fell in love with a yankee from Toledo, Ohio, named Treasure Ann. They married in December 1961. During his enlistment, Ed served on the U.S.S. Jenkins as a Gunner’s Mate. His service included the Vietnam War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and atomic bomb testing. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Ed entered an apprenticeship program to become a tool and die maker in Toledo. Shortly after, he and Treasure moved their growing family to Holland, Ohio, where he lived until his passing. He excelled in the tool and die industry, earning a reputation as a troubleshooter, which preceded him as he moved from City Machine & Tool to Peter Stamping and then to Tecumseh Products. Though Ed lived in Ohio, his Kentucky roots were strong, and Kentucky was where the family spent vacations, holidays, and three-day weekends. Music was always a significant part of his life—being from Eastern Kentucky, bluegrass was in his blood. He could sure sing that “high lonesome sound,” harmonizing with his sisters and his Uncle Barlow on many songs and hymns.
His hobbies included working in his yard, bowling, and traveling. If those activities included family, then he was at his happiest. As the grandbabies came along, Ed found another source of joy and laughter, especially after retirement when he could enjoy them even more. He was always a soft touch—once giving his oldest grandson, dressed in a white tuxedo to be the ring bearer at his aunt’s wedding, a jelly donut after everyone else had said “no.” He and Grandpa Ed were a team. (P.S. Not a drop on that white tux, luckily for Ed.) He helped teach his granddaughters to drive and counseled his grandsons on dating and women. He truly enjoyed his grandchildren, and they all adored him.
In his great-grandchildren, he saw not only his children and grandchildren but also himself and his siblings. He loved to watch his two oldest great-grandsons scuffle, play, and pick on each other, and after they’d gone home, he would grin and say, “As long as those two boys live, my brother and I will never die.”Ed’s priority was always his family, and they felt that love and guidance every day of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Green and Bill, his sisters Josephine, Lizzie, Alta, Sophia, and Betty Jo, his daughter Sarah, grandson Sean, and his brother-in-law and partner in crime, Jack Wallington, with whom he shared countless donuts, cups of coffee, and many hours on the bowling lanes. It is somehow fitting that Jack went home to heaven just a day before Ed.
Left behind to cherish his memory of love and laughter are his beloved Treasure Ann;
Daughters Jackie (Ray) of Rush, Kentucky, and Linda (Tom) of Lorraine, Ohio; son Edward (Leslie) of Holland, Ohio.
Sisters Inez of Harold, Kentucky, and Lois of Honaker, Kentucky.
Granddaughters, Shelby, Jessica, Olivia, Kaitlyn, Amanda and Casie;
Grandsons Jonathan, Matthew, Robert, Edgar, Anthony, Christopher, Ian, Ben and Chuck.
Great-grandchildren Aurora, Ethan, Jaxson, Jameson, Kenzie, Beatrice, Archie, and Charlie.
Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He cherished all of them and they all have fond memories.
We leave you with these words of wisdom from Ed: “You can’t buy back time", "Life is better with music", and "Saturdays were made for donuts.”
So take some time to listen to music you love while eating a donut and drinking a coffee, think of Ed, and smile.
