Obituary For Douglas W. Myers

Douglas W. Myers “Doug" passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, at 10:25am. He was born April 22nd, 1968, to David and Marie Myers in Toledo, Ohio. He was a 1987 graduate from Woodward High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy. Doug has been employed for Norfolk Southern Railroad for almost 20 years, where he was affectionately known as “Dougie.” He was a football coach for the Birmingham Trojans for years and earned the name Coach Doug from all the kids he influenced. He met the love of his life, Pennie in 1987 and they have been married for 36 years this past September. He was the best teacher to anybody willing to learn. Doug was loved and respected by everyone he encountered. He would not hesitate to help anyone he met. He was an amazing role model. To know him was to love him and feel safe. He was an amazing husband, father, and a great provider for everyone, even strangers. His grandchildren will always remember the amazing papa he was to them.

To quote his daughter, “he was my true north, my moral compass.”

Doug is survived by his wife, Pennie Myers of 36 years. His son, Justin (Brianna) Myers and daughter Victoria (Joshua Kindle) Myers. He leaves to cherish his memory, his grandchildren, Preston Hatch, Analyn and Kinsley Myers.

Visitation for Doug is scheduled from 1:00 – 5:00 PM, Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Walker Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio, followed by the funeral service at 5:00 PM. Immediately following the service Doug’s family invites everyone to join them in celebrating his life with a gathering at VFW Post 4906, 2161 Consaul St., Toledo, OH 43605. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Cherry Street Mission Ministries, 1502 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio 43604. He was taken too soon, but we take comfort in knowing he loved us well.
