Obituary For Douglas J. Rath

Douglas was born February 6, 1948 to Robert and Virginia Rath. He grew up with his 6 sisters and two brothers in the family home in St. Michaels Ridge, outside of Defiance, Ohio. While growing up, Doug helped his father and Uncle work the family farms and attended St. Michaels Grade School and Tinora High School. After graduation Doug joined the Navy and served in Vietnam with the Seabees US Naval Construction Battalion. When he returned from the Navy he settled in Toledo, Ohio and worked for Lucas County until his retirement.

Douglas was a very talented carpenter and did renovations on his beautiful homes over the years. He was an avid gardener and prided himself on having many unusual plants in his garden. Doug loved to play golf, play Euchre, and go out to dinner. He especially enjoyed spending time with his son, Jasin, shooting pool every Wednesday. It was always the highlight of his week. He loved his family dearly and especially liked reunions with his large family and telling the infamous family stories.

Fun-loving and kind Doug was active for many years at Westgate Chapel, where he served as an usher as well as helping with the landscaping and building maintenance. Since 2019, he has attended Oak Bend Church in Perrysburg, where he has made many good friends and strengthened his relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Doug married his first wife, Betty, while in the Navy and had one son, Jasin Rath, who resides in Toledo, Ohio. His second wife, Doris, passed in 2018. They were married 29 years and he was her loving caregiver for several years. He is survived by his third wife, Jean, who lovingly took care of him during his illness, He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Judith. He is survived by his loving wife Jean, son, Jasin and his siblings, Joan, Patricia, Mary, Jennifer, Robyn, Samuel and Gregory.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11:00 am in Oak Bend Church, 11275 Eckel Junction Rd, Perrysburg, OH 43551. Burial will be held privately at Roth Cemetery.
