Obituary For Denise Dunwald

Denise “Hama” Dunwald passed away surrounded by her loving family on October 16, 2024. She was an “abfabulous” woman, colorful, and splendid in every way.

Born to her parents William and Gladys (Pugsley) Woodie on May 15, 1949, she grew up in the Toledo area. She attended the University of Toledo and graduated with a Bachelor of Education. She met Herman Dunwald during her college years, and they were wed on November 27, 1970.

Denise worked at New York Life and Owens Corning, retiring in 2007. She volunteered for Mobile Meals from 2007-2024 and Toledo Botanical Gardens. But nothing was more important than family to Denise. She enjoyed being a mom to her three daughters, Julie, Nicole and Danielle, and loving her grandchildren.

Denise was the nicest, sweetest, funniest, kindest person, always concerned for other’s wellbeing. She had the best laugh and found joy in everything.

Her love of reading and traveling to visit family filled her with happiness. Some of her favorite places included Sandusky Bay, Charleston, SC, Memphis, Tennessee, and Houston, TX. She also loved playing games with her family and was tickled when anyone agreed to play cards with her. Martini Fridays were some of her favorite ways to relax with Herm. They also loved spending many summer days at their place on Sandusky Bay with friends and family.

Denise will be dearly missed by her husband, Herman Dunwald; daughters, Julie Dickman, Nicole (Geoff) Dunwald, Danielle (Vincent) Dunwald Noce; and 6 grandchildren; her beloved sister, Beverly (john) Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. Woodie, Gladys E. (Pugsley) Woodie, and sister, Patrice Wisbon.

A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church (2315 Collingwood) on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital in honor of Denise.
