Obituary For Charles Hauck
Charles “Pete” Hauck, age 93, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023. Born February 13, 1930, in Portsmouth Ohio, Pete graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He spent most of his career with Owens Corning, where he worked for 35+ years, the last 10 of which he was a Vice President and Corporate Controller. He retired in 1993.
Pete married the love of his life, Paula, in 1957. They spent 66 years together and celebrated their anniversary one week before his passing. Together they raised three children, and they were committed members of Collingwood Presbyterian Church.
Pete and Paula were dedicated Ohio State Buckeye fans and were football season ticket holders for nearly 60 years, rarely missing a home game during that time. Pete was also very passionate about baseball. He was an avid supporter of the Ohio State baseball program and traveled with the team, enjoying his unofficial role as “hospitality coordinator” for the coaching staff. Early on while they were courting, Pete took Paula on a date, driving her from Portsmouth to Cincinnati and back to watch a double-header with the Cincinnati Reds. When she didn’t resist or complain, he knew had had found his perfect match. He and Paula also loved to travel, especially with family, making a point to take each of their grandchildren on special trips throughout the years.
Pete is survived by his wife, Paula Hauck; children, Laurie Hauck, Nancy (Dan) McMahon, Tom (Becky) Hauck; grandchildren, Meagan (Luke) Brown, Erin (Jason) VanDevere, Kevin (Lauren) McMahon, Brian McMahon, Shannon McMahon, Kathleen McMahon, Zack Hauck, Nick Hauck, and Abby Hauck; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday, August 21, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623. A memorial to celebrate Pete’s life will be scheduled for a future time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Living Swan Creek retirement community or Collingwood Presbyterian Church.
