Obituary For Catherine L. Hammoud

Catherine (“Cathy”) Hammoud, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 17, 2024.

Beyond being a cherished “Sito”, she was a dear and lifelong friend to many. As she battled the long-term impacts of Covid-19, a constant stream of visitors made her feel loved beyond measure.

For nearly 40 years as an educator, Cathy’s patience, passion, and laughter filled the hearts of students and hallways of schools in the greater Toledo area and internationally in the Middle East. Even in retirement, she didn’t stray far from the classroom as she served as principal of the Islamic School of Greater Toledo for five years.

The family asks that Cathy be remembered for her generosity of spirit. She poured her lively soul into everything she did; whether she was making trays of her famous baklava or sewing blankets to keep her friends warm, she was always thinking of others.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, M. Nazih Hammoud, her parents M. Samuel Adray I and Anne (Shamas) Adray. She is survived by her daughters Rima Juergens (Jason) and Abrar Hammoud, and grandchildren Logan Deal, Safia Abiad, Malik Abiad, and Evy Juergens, who were the apples of her eyes; her brother James Adray, and loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by remarkable friends, whose relationships with Cathy spanned decades, created countless treasured memories, and brought her great comfort.

The family would like to thank her caregivers at the Manor in Perrysburg for their extraordinary support over the past three years.

A funeral will be held at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo on Friday, January 19, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:30am-12:45pm followed by a service at 1:00pm and a reception after the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Cathy's name to the Manor of Perrysburg Activity Fund or the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo.
