Obituary For Betty L. Henry

Betty L. Henry, 94, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born July 29, 1929 in Perrysburg to Ralph and Edna (Hahn) Artz. Betty graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1947. She married Gerald E. Henry on November 4, 1950 and together they raised three daughters until his death in 1997.

Music was near and dear to Betty’s heart as she grew up playing the accordion in her dad’s band, the Artz Orchestra, an instrument she also gave lessons in playing. She was a proud and very involved band mother as her daughters participated in band while at Rossford High School.

Betty was an avid sports fan as she played basketball in high school, and later in life, discovered her passion for tennis, a sport she played for more than 50 years, until age 88.

In addition to music and sports, Betty had a very active lifestyle and many friends. She was involved in the “50 Club”, the 4B’s, ushered at the Stranahan, and traveled. She enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in her flowers and lawn. Betty was also a life-long member of Zoar Lutheran Church.

Family is what was most important to Betty. She loved family get-togethers and attending and cheering at any sporting events, competitions and performances that she could for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. People would always comment to her on how great it was for her to be out, at her age, supporting her family.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Dave) Kistner and Lisa (John) Evans; grandchildren, Heather (Mark) Nissen, Holly Kiefer, Kimberly Kistner, Wesley Kistner, Nathan Evans, and Colin (Meghan) Evans; great-grandchildren, Lauren (Jay), Austen, Claire, Cole, Bryce, Cora, Graham, Calvin, and Asher; sister Shirley Bettinger; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Henry; daughter Sharon Smith; son-in-law Nick Smith; sister Janet Bylow; and her parents.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 4-8 P.M. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home (222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg). Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 8, at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Contributions in Betty’s memory can be made to the Eastwood Athletic Boosters (4900 Sugar Ridge Rd, Pemberville, OH 43450).

The family would like to extend our sincere thank you to the amazing staff at both Waterford at Levis Commons and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Words cannot express our appreciation for the love and care you provided. Condolences may be made online to the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
