Obituary For Betty L. Brodie
Betty Louise Brodie (Fox), 85, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on October 7, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Born on March 17, 1939, Betty lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others.
Betty was a proud alumna of Kenton High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1956 and graduated in 1957. She was also honored as Miss Scioto Valley Queen in 1957. Betty married the love of her life, Joseph Brodie, on November 22, 1958, and together they built a beautiful family and life.
Betty pursued higher education with passion, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Indiana University Kokomo in 1980, graduating with academic honors. She furthered her education with a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Ball State University in 1985. Betty dedicated 23 years to teaching in the Peru and South Bend, Indiana school systems, where she touched countless lives with her kindness and expertise.
Betty’s talents extended beyond the classroom. She was an exceptional cook, known for her homemade meals and delicious baked goods, especially her pies, cookies, cakes, brownies, and fudge. She had a green thumb and loved gardening, particularly tending to her beloved bluebirds. Betty’s sweet tooth was legendary, with a special fondness for maple nut clusters from Dietsch Brothers and maple-flavored doughnuts. She was the glue that held her extended family together, and her oatmeal cookies will be missed by all who had the pleasure of tasting them
Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Joseph Brodie, and their four children: Scott (Sue) Brodie of Spring, Texas; Steve (Debbie) Brodie; Shanna (Carl) Denman; and Kyle (Lori) Brodie. She was a cherished grandmother to twelve grandchildren: Matthew, Meredith, Everly, Leigh, Austin, Evelyn, Samuel, Lucas, Clare, Nicholas, Abigail, and Joseph, and a beloved great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Palmer, Lucas, Lillian, Kathryn, Sophia, Quinn, and Caroline. Betty is also survived by her siblings: Jim Fox, Cheryl (Gerald) Purcell, Cindy (Bill) Maybrey, and Joel (Daniella) Fox. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Kathryn (Swartz) Fox.
Betty will be remembered for her unwavering love and support, her dedication to her family and students, and her ability to bring joy to those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in St. John John XXIII Church, 24250 N. Dixie Hwy, Perrysburg, OH 43551, where a funeral mass will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be held privately in Glen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Michael J.
