Obituary For Barbara Ann Bergman

Barbara “Babs” Ann Bergman, 73, of Toledo, OH, passed into the presence of her Lord on October 2, 2024, in her home. She was born September 24, 1951, to parents Eldo and Agnes “Tomme” (Thompson) Bergman and raised in Genoa, OH.

Barb went to Genoa grade school and graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in 1969. Following high school, she graduated from Mary Manse College in 1973 with an education degree. Barb worked as a lifeguard in high school, and after college taught in the elementary grades at St. Boniface (Oak Harbor), St. Jerome (Walbridge), and St. Peters (Huron). In addition, she spent a few years teaching in Guadalajara, Mexico. Barb spent several years at Lott Industries, helping adults with disabilities, and retired there. In retirement, she enjoyed working with her coworkers at Modern Floors.

Barb loved to teach aerobics and yoga and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State Buckeyes. She loved watching her brothers and nephews wrestle and coach and was a faithful supporter to nieces and nephews in many sports games. Barb had a great love for Siamese cats, which began when her parents gifted her a kitten for Christmas as a child after bringing home stray cats from the farm. Her cats, Holly and Saphy, were loved dearly. Barb also enjoyed gardening and helping her family with their own yards and projects.

Barb will be greatly missed for her love and generosity to family and friends. She hosted an annual Christmas party where she opened her home to loved ones and made lots of food. Barb gave bread, buckeyes, and many treats to share with family and was the most thoughtful, generous gift giver.

She is preceded in death by her parents Eldo and Agnes Bergman and her brothers William, Henry (Ellen), and John (Kathryn) and brothers-in-law David Lapointe, Spence Knight, and Michael Perry. She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Eldo Jr. (Mary Ann), Marie Lapointe, Joan Knight, Joseph (Mary), James (Donna), Mary (Craig) Dunlap, Elizabeth (Anthony) Mass, George (Cathy), Catherine (Greg) Dzoba, Chris (Kelly) as well as 45 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Barbara’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the owners of Modern Floors for their help during her illness. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Visitation for Barb will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM, Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St. Genoa, Ohio. A memorial service will be conducted in the funeral home at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Barb’s family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 or to the animal shelter of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
